JWIT 2003

Using the Internet in the Classroom

Activity Sheet

Print these pages out to complete the activities or use your own notebook paper
to record your responses.

Activity 1
Explore the web sites on the JWIT resource page. Choose three and tell how you might be able to use them in a unit that you already teach. OR If you do not think that any would be useful to you, tell why. Then, think about what you would want to see in a web site.
Keep this in mind when you are developing your own web-based projects.

Activity 2
What curricular area will your activity  be about? Answer
some of the questions in “Things to Ponder” about the project you will be
developing.

Things to Ponder...

  •         What is the task?
  •         What is the motivating goal?
  •         What are the learning objectives?
  •         What process will it involve?
  •         What should the students learn/gain from the experience?
  •         Is it appropriate for the grade level?
  •         How will the lesson accomplish the goals?
  •         Does it hold the students’ interest?
  •         Will it be a challenge?
  •         Can it be completed in a reasonable amount of time?
  •       What resources will be needed?
  •         How will it be managed?
  •         Will students need to use higher order thinking skills to complete the project?
  •         How will I know students met the learning objectives?

Activity 3:

Shape some of the questions that you would ask your students on the topic of your choice.

Shape the Question

  • Build a foundation or demonstrate a context for students.
  • Phrase inquiry questions so that students can't copy/paste answers.
  • Make the question open-ended enough that students can be creative.
  • Phrase them so that students can make choices.
  • Phrase the questions so that students will compare/contrast.
  • Phrase them so that students must take a side of an issue or form an opinion
